The short version
We keep what you put into Let's Go Explore so you and your group can plan a trip together. We don't sell it, we don't show ads, and you can delete your account and everything that's yours at any time.
What we keep
- Your account: your email address and the name you show to your group. You sign in with a code sent to that email; there's no password.
- Your trips: places, dates, ideas, votes and the reasons you give, the calendar, bookings you add (names, dates, addresses, prices, confirmation numbers and notes), invites, expenses, diary entries and photos you add.
- Your travel profile: your home town, your answers about how you like to travel, your travel style and your reactions to it, the name you give your trip assistant, and any travel history you choose to add (a TripIt calendar link, a calendar file, or notes you paste).
- Usage counts: how many requests you make to the trip assistant each day, to keep costs fair.
- Error reports: when something goes wrong on the website, the error message, the page it happened on and your browser type, so we can fix it. They don't include your trip's contents.
- Files you import: confirmation emails, PDFs, screenshots and links you use to add bookings are kept in your trip's private Files, so your group can find them again. You can remove them there.
Everything in a trip is visible to the people on that trip, and anyone with its invite link can join, so share the link only with your group. Your travel profile, including your home town, is only used for you.
Location
- Nearby reminders and distances: if you turn on "tell me when I'm close" or nearby reminders, your location is used on your phone or in your browser to measure distances. That isn't sent to us.
- Finding your town: if you tap "Use my current location" for your home, your position, rounded to about a kilometre, is sent to our server to look up the town name. It isn't stored; only the town you pick is saved.
- Place searches: searching for a place sends what you typed and the trip stop it's near to our server, to look it up.
- Photo locations: the place a photo you add was taken is saved with it, to put it under the right day and activity.
What stays on your device
- Contacts: when you pick a contact (for someone's home, or someone to invite), only that one contact's name and address are used. We never read your address book.
- Photos: only the photos you choose are uploaded, to your trip's private album. The date and place they were taken are used to sort them by day.
Who helps run it
These services process data on our behalf, only to provide Let's Go Explore:
- Supabase: accounts, the trip database and photo storage.
- Vercel: hosting the website and its servers, and counting visits to the website (pages viewed, where a visit came from, country and device type), without cookies and not tied to your account.
- OpenAI: the trip assistant. When you ask for ideas or import a booking, the request includes your trip, your travel preferences and what you gave it. We ask your permission first, and you can turn this off in your profile (the website) or account menu (the app). Their business terms say this isn't used to train their models.
- Resend: sending your sign-in codes and the questions you send us.
- Map and place lookups (OpenStreetMap services), weather forecasts and history (Open-Meteo) and exchange rates (Frankfurter): these receive place names and dates, not who you are.
When you follow a link on a card (a hotel's site, a booking or ticket site), that site's own privacy policy applies. Some of those links may in future earn us a commission; that never changes which places are suggested.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account at any time: on the website under Your travel profile → Delete my account, or in the iPhone app from the account menu. That removes your account, your travel profile, trips you organised (for everyone on them) and your votes, photos, expenses and diary entries in other people's trips. It can't be undone.
Children
Let's Go Explore is for people 16 and over.
